U.S. EPA Community Change Grant

The City of Evansville in partnership with Welborn Baptist Foundation has been selected by the U.S. EPA for a $20 million Community Change Grant. This grant will fund a comprehensive expansion of clean transportation options.

2025 Climate Action Plan

The 2025 Evansville Climate Action Plan (CAP) was developed as a 5- year strategic plan to guide agency actions that will have positive impacts on community health and resiliency. The goal of the CAP is to reduce energy use and air pollution, while improving sustainability and resiliency. The plan will help Evansville do its part to curb further climate changes and prepare for the climate impacts ahead.

Clean Community Award

ECC has been recognized as an Indiana Clean Community by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. The state recognizes the city for being proactive to become a cleaner, greener, more sustainable city. We have a long way to go, but it is nice to be recognized for the efforts so far. Evansville is a Bronze level Clean Community, and ECC will continue to strive for advanced achievements in the program.

2023 Greenhouse Gas Inventory

Evansville’s first Evansville Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory focused on 2017 data for city government operations. We are partnering with ClimateNav to conduct a new GHG Inventory that will include the community at-large and more recent 2023 emissions. This study will establish a transparent, data-driven process to develop and prioritize actions for the Climate Action Plan.

Climate Action Dashboard

ECC is partnering with ClimateNav to develop Evansville’s first Climate Action Dashboard! The dashboard will be an interactive tool for the public so they can learn more about the Climate Action Plan (CAP) and actionable steps they can take to help. The dashboard will provide transparency and accountability regarding the city’s progress on implementing the CAP and resulting impact on GHG emissions.

The City of Evansville conducted a study to quantify the existing tree canopy and identify potential tree planting areas with the goal of prioritizing actions to increase tree canopy.

The City of Evansville engaged KERAMIDA to conduct a Resiliency Assessment to investigate the potential hazards, impacts, and risks of climate change specific to the Evansville area.

Evansville achieved SolSmart Bronze designation, for streamlining solar permitting and fostering greater solar energy adoption within the community.

Municipal Building Energy Audits

ECC is partnering with Keramida Consulting to conduct energy audits of select city facilities. The audits will quantify energy use by system to identify and prioritize energy improvements that will reduce energy use and expenses.

Municipal Fleet Audits

ECC is partnering with Drive Clean Indiana Cities, Inc. to conduct an audit of municipal fleets. The audits will identify and prioritize vehicles that can be transitioned to alternative fuels or electrified to reduce fuel, maintenance and operating costs.
