Climate Action Dashboard

ECC is partnering with ClimateNav to develop Evansville’s first Climate Action Dashboard! The dashboard will be an interactive tool for the public so they can learn more about the Climate Action Plan (CAP) and actionable steps they can take to help. The dashboard will provide transparency and accountability regarding the city’s progress on implementing the CAP and resulting impact on GHG emissions.

The Climate Action Dashboard is an innovative project spearheaded by ClimateNav, a public-benefit startup focused on building technology and tools that empower local governments in their sustainability and resilience efforts. The primary purpose of this dashboard is to serve as a transparency and accountability tool, allowing the public to easily access information about the climate programs and initiatives undertaken by the City of Evansville.

Once the Climate Action Plan (CAP) revision is completed, expected in early 2025, the dashboard will be published to provide an interactive and user-friendly platform for residents to understand the updated plan. It will also feature an exhaustive list of localized actions that individuals and businesses can take to reduce their carbon footprint, fostering greater community engagement in climate initiatives.

Cities like Bloomington, IN, have experienced significant success with similar dashboards, demonstrating their effectiveness in improving transparency and engaging the public. The Evansville Climate Action Dashboard aims to replicate this success by becoming a focal point for community involvement and awareness.

Beyond its public-facing features, the dashboard will also establish robust data-related processes on the backend to track the city’s climate progress. This includes the regular updating of the city’s greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories—both community-wide and municipal operations—as well as the development of indicators and metrics to evaluate the implementation of the Climate Action Plan. These metrics will be updated annually, ensuring that the community remains informed about the city’s progress toward its sustainability goals.

Overall, the Climate Action Dashboard will play a crucial role in enhancing public engagement and fostering a collaborative approach to climate action in Evansville.
