Municipal Fleet Audits
ECC is partnering with Drive Clean Indiana Cities, Inc. to conduct an audit of municipal fleets. The audits will identify and prioritize vehicles that can be transitioned to alternative fuels or electrified to reduce fuel, maintenance and operating costs.
According to the 2017 Greenhouse Gas Inventory for City of Evansville operations, transportation was the largest sector contributing to greenhouse gas emissions. Since the city has a sizeable fleet of vehicles for both public transit and departmental operations, it is critical that we consider low to zero emission options to reduce out impact to air quality.
The ECC has partnered with Drive Clean Indiana, Inc (DCI) to conduct an audit of Evansville municipal fleets. DCI is a U.S. Dept. of Energy Clean Cities Coalition nonprofit partner based in Indiana that works with stakeholders to advance transition to cleaner alternative fuel transportation vehicles and systems. DCI provides technical assistance through partnerships, project management, education and outreach, training, and grant writing.
DCI will audit city fleets to identify and prioritize which vehicles have lower emission options, lowering operation and maintenance costs and air emissions. DCI will select vehicles as good candidates for replacement with electric or hybrid versions, or to switch to biodiesel fuels. DCI will work with fleet managers to collect fleet data, prepare fleet analyses and reports, and track progress. They will also offer educational seminars to coach fleet managers on procurement and management of these newer vehicle technologies.
The audit process and results will help city fleet managers learn best practices and make informed decisions about their fleet vehicles, saving time, energy, money, and emissions!
