Municipal Building Energy Audits

ECC is partnering with Keramida Consulting to conduct energy audits of select city facilities. The audits will quantify energy use by system to identify and prioritize energy improvements that will reduce energy use and expenses.

The largest sector for greenhouse gas emissions is typically stationary energy for buildings, facilities, and infrastructure. To have the most impact in reducing those emissions, we must significantly improve our energy efficiency and conservation methods and transition to clean, renewable energy.

In the 2020 Climate Action Plan, the City of Evansville committed to reducing energy consumption and costs in municipal buildings, thereby reducing emissions from energy production. Strategies include energy efficiency improvements and transition to renewable energy sources.

To better understand the energy profile of each building and prioritize energy improvements, the ECC has hired the consulting firm Keramida of Indianapolis to conduct an audit on a select number of city owned, operated, or managed buildings. The audit is funded through an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Keramida will follow American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) guidelines to conduct Level 1 energy audits. The audits will include a complete site assessment via an onsite walkthrough, benchmarking analysis, and operator interviews. The audits will provide building owners and operators with data on energy systems and operations, and a prioritized list of improvements based on costs, impacts, and timelines.

By conducting energy audits, the city will be able to make strategic and impactful decisions on improvements to reduce energy use and costs, reduce air emissions, and protect residents and conserve their tax dollars.
