SolSmart

Evansville achieved SolSmart Bronze designation, for streamlining solar permitting and fostering greater solar energy adoption within the community.

Utilizing clean, renewable solar energy is a significant step to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and associated air emissions that contribute to climate change. The city signaled its commitment to prioritizing solar energy by achieving SolSmart designation!

SolSmart is a national, voluntary program that helps cities, towns, counties, and regional organizations become solar energy leaders. SolSmart is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, Solar Energy Technologies Office. SolSmart helps reduce barriers to solar energy adoption, offers technical assistance to participants, and helps spur economic growth in the community. The designation mean residents and businesses can more easily adopt solar through a simpler solar permitting process, reducing time and costs to get approval. It also improves overall public awareness, acceptance, and accessibility to solar.

Evansville was able to achieve the Solsmart Bronze designation through no-cost technical assistance offered by the program administrators. To achieve this designation, the city signed a letter of commitment to the program and evaluated municipal codes and permitting processes to meet select Solsmart requirements. ECC will continue working with other city departments to achieve advanced levels of designation with the program.
